Old Enough To Know

In the last few years of my dad's life, he developed a brain tumor,  He had surgery and survived with a few side effects like his eyelids not always staying opened.  In the last year, he had a few scary moments where he lost most of his memory.  My husband and I raced to his house and  I played him and his wife, Lyn,  the song I'd written for their wedding, "Old Enough To Know",

My father loved that song and asked me to play it nearly every time I was there. As a Christmas present I recorded it with a professional singer.  This is the first time he heard this recording and since I hadn't added piano to it yet, I played along with it.

As I played it for him, he started remembering the song, and even started singing along.  His memory came back and he lived for about another year.

He left us just after his 89th birthday.

Power of Love

Danielle Beeves-Morris sings her own story in The Power of Love.  This was her first time recording and if you listen carefully you can feel some of her nerves, but the "velvetyness" of her voice comes through reminding me of Karen Carpenter. The song was about her meeting her husband, my son, falling in love and getting married. Like most of us there were hopes and fears.
